What’s the fine print on the 24/7 Always There Guarantee?

A: There is no catch, no limited offers, and no fine print. As a Complete Care® customer you will always receive the Always There Guarantee. Providing this extra level of assurance is just part of how we take care of our customers.

How do you know when it’s time for a fill?

A: Sharp Propane uses advanced, weather-based computer modeling called Smart Monitoring to let us know when it’s time for your next propane delivery. That means that for your convenience, we fill your tank when (and only when) you need it.

What is Smart Monitoring?

A: Smart Monitoring is a sophisticated computer model that we use to estimate your tank level based on your past usage and the actual weather in your area. When your tank reaches a predefined threshold (usually about 20-30% full), we automatically schedule you for a delivery.

But before we fill your tank, we record the actual tank level and compare it. These continual adjustments ensure the accuracy of our forecasts. This means that our system gets more accurate the longer you are a Complete Care® customer and your tank only gets filled when you need propane.

Why do you call yourselves The Propane Professionals®?

A: As one of the most trusted names in propane, Sharp has been providing safe, reliable and convenient propane energy solutions to Texans for more than 60 years.

At Sharp we understand that service is about much more than delivering propane gas to your tank. Our Propane Professionals go beyond the basic service requirements, helping to set higher industry standards of safety, reliability and customer care to always put your comfort first.

It means we’re always available, ready to answer your questions, watching your tank so you don’t have to, and measuring our success by your satisfaction.

How does Sharp work with builders?

A: Our Builder Care® program involves much more than just setting a tank. Our job is to make yours easier by saving you time and money. We understand that thousands of details affect the cost, timing, and eventual success of new construction projects. With Sharp’s Builder Care, the propane system won’t be one you’ll need to worry about.

Why propane, and not electricity?

A: High efficiency propane appliances are an integral part of today’s green homes. Heating a home with propane produces significantly less greenhouse gas emissions than heating a home with electricity.

While electric appliances don’t emit carbon dioxide directly at the home, the electricity that powers those appliances is produced primarily from coal-fired power plants. In fact, a high-efficiency propane furnace produces 50% less greenhouse gas emissions than a high efficiency heat pump over its lifetime.*

Once installed, high-efficiency propane appliances are less expensive to operate than comparable electric appliances, especially during colder than normal winters.

Do you deliver in my area?

Sharp Propane is headquartered in Bastrop, Texas with operations in Austin, Bryan, Fort Worth and La Grange.

To check for availability in your area for delivery, search your ZIP code on our homepage or contact our customer service center directly at:

(800)-932-4315 or email us at service@sharppropane.com

Are you going to top off my tank?

A: No. We never top off a tank just because it’s convenient for us. Using our sophisticated Smart Monitoring computer modeling, Sharp carefully monitors your propane usage, and will route a truck to fill your tank only when you’re getting low (usually when the tank is about 20-30% full) or when we identify a significant need due to a change in local weather.

We believe in over-delivering on service, not gallons.

How does Easy Pay™ work?

A: Sharp’s thorough Safety Check inspection for new Complete Care™ customers (or actual usage data from our Smart Monitoring technology for existing customers) allows our experienced service technicians to calculate your estimated annual usage. We’ll then divide your annual estimated propane usage and tank rental fee into even, predictable monthly Easy Pay payments.

Each year, we’ll recalculate your balance, and any remaining balance or credit can be rolled over into the next year’s monthly payment.

Do I have to pay extra for Complete Care™?

A: No. There is no extra charge for Complete Care service—and there’s no fine print. It’s just how we prefer to take care of you. We’ve developed Complete Care through years of service and customer input, and we’ve found that this delivery model and level of service best fits the way our customers live.

What if I don’t own my tank? Do you rent or sell tanks?

A: Yes and yes. We can custom install an above-ground or underground tank on your property. Whether you have a new home or want to replace an existing tank, we have services to help you plan and successfully install your tank onsite. We also offer cathodic protection to prevent your tank from rusting or corroding over time.

What if I have a tank from another provider?

A: Industry laws prevent us from filling your tank if you’re currently leasing it
from another provider. But swapping tanks is not a difficult process, and can be
easily accomplished by our Propane Professionals. Call us today at (800)-932-
4315 to find out more about the process.

If I smell propane, what should I do?

A: Treat all propane gas odors seriously. Any odors may indicate a dangerous situation. If you think you smell propane in or around your home or building, immediately follow these procedures:

  • Do not turn on or use anything that initiates a spark such as light switches, flashlights, electrical devices or phones.
  • Quickly get everyone out of the home or building.
  • Turn off the supply of propane at the cylinder or tank.
  • Call 911.
  • Do not allow re-entry to the area until it has been cleared and the leak has been shut off.
  • Call Sharp Propane at  (800)-932-4315 to schedule a service call to repair the leak.

Propane is naturally odorless. An odorant (most always ethyl mercaptan) is added so that propane leaks can be easily detected. If you have a situation in which someone in the household may have limited ability to smell propane, you may want to consider purchasing a propane gas alarm. An alarm may provide an extra measure of warning but is not a substitute for regular propane system and appliance inspection.

Can I shut off my propane supply in an emergency?

A: Yes. Sharp Propane provides 24-hour call and response, but if it is necessary to shut off your propane supply before Sharp or an emergency response department arrives, you should know the proper shut-off procedure. During our 7-point system Safety Check, our Complete Care customers receive in-person instruction from our propane professionals on propane safety procedures, such as how to detect the odor of propane and how to properly shut off the propane supply tank.

If you are not sure how to shut off the gas supply from your tank or cylinder, contact us for instructions. A qualified service technician or delivery driver can show you how to turn the propane supply off at your next delivery or scheduled service inspection.

Can I turn the supply on again?

A: No, once the propane is shut off, it should be turned back on by a certified Sharp Propane service technician who will inspect and leak-test the system, then re-establish service.

Do I ever need to repaint my tank?

A: Yes, you should keep your tank painted and rust-free. Help improve tank safety and performance and extend the life of the tank by making sure the metal surfaces are painted in a light color to reflect sunlight away from the tank. Dark or rusty tanks may absorb heat causing an increase in pressure, unnecessarily stressing system valves and fixtures. If you rent your tank from Sharp, we provide tank maintenance such as surface repainting and parts replacement as part of our Complete Care service. To learn more, contact us at 1-800-932-4315.

Is there anything I should do before doing major landscaping projects?

A: Yes – call before you dig. Underground pipes bring propane from the tank into your house. Be sure to call Sharp Propane customer service before doing major planting or landscaping, installing fence posts or adding a home addition.

Can you bury my tank?

A: Yes, we can safely install an underground propane tank. Sharp will help assess your situation and help you find the most appropriate tank.

Underground propane tanks have been used for decades and have a proven safety record. While parts of the process can be tackled by a do-it-yourselfer (excavation, purchase of fill, backfill, and landscaping), other parts of the process should be managed only by certified propane professionals (tank installation and leveling, cathodic protection, gas piping, safety check, and placing the system into service). Call Sharp Propane at (800) 932-4315 or ask your builder to contact one of our Propane Professionals.

How can I control my gas usage?

A: Reducing your propane usage and overall energy consumption can help save you money and helps the environment. Here are some easy things you can do to help:

  • Check your home HVAC system and regularly change your filters. Clean filters keep the system healthy and in good working order, and improves efficiency.
  • Upgrading to a programmable home thermostat will help control your heater usage. You can program your thermostat to lower the temperature when you are not home or when you are sleeping. On your average heating bill you can save up to 2% for every single degree Celsius (2% for every 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit) that you turn down the thermostat.
  • Improve air balance by using the furnace fan or external fans to evenly distribute heat inside the home.

  • Increase your home’s overall R-Value by meeting or exceeding local insulation standards.
  • Tighten your home. Close attic fan and fireplace dampers when not in use. Check for drafts around windows and doors. Seal around electrical outlets and lighting fixtures, air vents and registers,  plumbing wall entries and other areas where leaks may occur.

  • The use of propane water heater, will provide excellent energy efficiency.  A propane water heater recovers heat twice as quickly as an electrical unit.
  • Lower your water heater thermostat by 10-15 degrees to between 120˚ and 130˚.
  • Routine water heater maintenance. Turn off and drain your water heater every six months to help remove deposits and increase heating efficiency. This will also dramatically extend the life of your water heater.
  • Install low-flow showerheads. You can achieve dramatic decreases in hot water consumption by restricting water flow, and lower your water bill as well.

  • A propane dryer saves money over an equivalent electric unit. Running both your washer and dryer with each load at full capacity decreases your total monthly loads.  Rinse with cold water when doing your laundry; the heating of water is the largest energy usage in the laundry room.

Take two minutes and tell us what you need. We promise to get right back to you.
