The Power of Propane in Inclement Weather

So far, this winter has been one for the record books, with cities across the United States witnessing some of the coldest temperatures since the mid-1990s. While the polar vortex wasn’t felt as strongly in Texas as it was in other states, we have still experienced quite the winter – and the colder temperatures have had an effect on our customers’ propane usage.

Because propane is often used for heating homes, propane systems have to work harder when it’s cold outside. Colder-than-usual weather means increased propane usage, and quicker depletion of supplies. What lasted you two to three months last winter might get used up in five to six weeks this year because the weather got colder faster, and your propane supply is working harder to battle against the colder temps.

Sharp Propane’s Complete Care Smart Monitoring and Auto Fill systems attempt to take these weather conditions into account – but service interruptions sometimes happen. If they do, know that we are available 24/7 to make sure our Complete Care customers are back up and running as quickly as possible. Our Service Center and after-hours answering service operates around the clock to field calls and inquiries, and will dispatch one of our technicians to your home, even if it’s in the middle of the night.

Know, too, that lifestyle changes can also help prevent increased usage. Limiting use of high-usage propane appliances, such as pool and spa heaters will go a long way in conserving your propane supply. We are available to answer any questions you might have about propane in the winter, and everything Sharp can do to make the colder months as pleasant as possible for you and your family. Give us a call at 1-800-932-4315 and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have.
